The Lowell Amateur Radio Youth Club (K8LHS), has been affiliated since 1994 with the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League). Members of the club are licensed students in both middle and high school. They participate year-round in amateur radio-related activities based on their interests. Some of those activities might include contests, digital modes, Morse Code, DX (HF), emergency communications, repeaters, VHF/UHF, hamfests, satellites, international space station (ISS), foxhunts (radio direction finding) soldering, Field Day, Dayton Hamvention, SKYWARN spotters training (National Weather Service) etc. Members do not have to attend Lowell schools to become a member, just live in the west Michigan area and be licensed. Licensing classes are held periodically.
